Job Description
Requisition ID req21096 Working Title Sr Statistician Position Grade 13 Position Summary

The College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, is seeking a Sr Statistician to support the Community Environmental Health Program (CEHP) on their NIH funded Navajo Birth Cohort Study/Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes grant (NBCS/ECHO). This is a multi-year funded grant that is the first of its kind, large scale assessment of environmental exposures and children's health. The NBCS follows the development of the enrolled children up to age 9 to track trajectories or patterns of neuro- and physical development with respect to environmental exposures to mixed metals that remain from decades of uranium mining. The data derived from this study will help to improve the child health outcomes not only on Navajo Nation but across the country.

The CEHP also leads and collaborates on several other environmental projects with complex data sets that are analyzed using mixed modeling approaches. Our statisticians have published independent manuscripts focused on developing novel methods for analyzing data with multiple predictors and multiple outcomes and ways to assess risk from mixed metal exposures. This position offers the opportunity to be a published author on manuscripts and supports career development.

The CEHP supports a flexible work schedule with an option for partial remote work. This is a collaborative group that benefits from in-person work and discussion. The ideal candidate would be local and able to maintain some in-person office hours.

Employment with the CEHP and UNM offers a positive work/life balance, along with a generous annual and sick leave program. As an employee at UNM you may also take advantage of the tuition remission program that can be used for academic, non-academic, health/wellness courses, and Continuing Education classes.

Duties and Requirements:
  • Participate in the design, analysis and reporting of study data and work with investigators to formalize analysis plans.
  • Develop, program, and maintain complex databases.
  • Prepare comprehensive statistical reports and participate in manuscript preparation.
  • Proficient in computer programming using statistical software packages including SAS and R.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, as well as the ability to understand abstract concepts is essential to perform well in this role.
  • Currently authorized to work in the U.S.
