The UNM College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) Center for Academic Success anticipates hiring Adjunct Faculty to teach in the Fall 2022, Spring 2023, and Summer 2023 semesters. Anticipated openings include, but are not limited to, the following versions of the Center's ARSC 198 courses:

- ARSC 198: Student Success in A&S (two-credit hour course)
- ARSC 198: Fostering Scholarly Minds (three-credit hour course)

- ARSC 198: Fostering Scientific Minds (three-credit hour course)

The two-credit hour "Student Success in A&S" class is a required course for first-year A&S students in academic jeopardy and is focused on the basic skills, conceptual frameworks, and learning strategies that enable students to successfully navigate their academic journey in A&S.

The three-credit hour "Fostering Scholarly/Scientific Minds" classes are first-year transition courses that are focused on tools and skills that are essential for a first-year student's successful transition to life at a Research-1 University in general and in A&S in particular.

The A&S Center for Academic Success is seeking qualified temporary part-time faculty members to teach various versions of ARSC 198, such as those specified above. Instructors are responsible for all aspects of any class that they are assigned to teach. Such responsibilities include but are not limited to meeting with the class during assigned times, delivering course content, developing and grading assignments, reporting grades, and assessing student learning outcomes per standards outlined by the Center. Instructors are also required to complete a multi-day orientation during the week before the start of the first semester in which they are teaching for the A&S Center for Academic Success.

Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, the department's matrix for course offerings, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to the Director of the A&S Center for Academic Success.

- Fall 2022 - July 1, 2022
- Spring 2023 - December 1, 2022
- Summer 2023 - March 15, 2023

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:


A. Pursuant to the accreditation standards set by the Higher Learning Commission, applicants are considered qualified to teach ARSC 198 for the A&S Center for Academic Success if they either:

1. Hold a master's degree or higher in the discipline or subfield for which they are applying

Or

2. Hold a master's degree or higher in a discipline related to but other than that for which they are applying and have successfully completed a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in an accredited program in the discipline or subfield for which they are applying.

For the purposes of being qualified to teach ARSC 198, applicants are expected to hold a degree in [a] Organization, Information & Learning Sciences (OILS), [b] a discipline in the UNM College of Arts and Sciences, or [c] a subfield of Education directly related to student experiences in higher education.

B. Alternatively, and consistent with the UNM College of Arts and Sciences policy on the qualifications needed to teach undergraduate courses based on equivalent tested experience, applicants are considered qualified to teach ARSC 198 in the A&S Center for Academic Success if they:

1. Hold a bachelor's degree in a discipline in the UNM College of Arts and Sciences or in a subfield of Education directly related to student experiences in higher education,

AND

2. Have documented satisfactory performance of working in higher education for 2 years as a professional responsible for providing direct support to students, whether as an Academic Advisor, a Student Success Specialist, or a staff member in a related role.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. A minimum of 12 earned graduate credit hours from an accredited program in [a]Organization, Information & Learning Sciences (OILS), [b] a discipline in the UNM College of Arts and Sciences or [c] a subfield of Education directly related to student experiences in higher education.

2. At least 1 year of professional experience as an Academic Advisor in higher education.

3. At least 1 year of professional experience providing direct support to students at UNM.

4. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
