The University of New Mexico, College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is seeking a Research Scientist 2. This is a Full-Time, 1.0 FTE, Benefits Eligible position.
The Research Scientist 2 will work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team on structural-dynamic-functional relationship of proteins. The candidate will combine biochemical, biophysical, and molecular biology approaches to address the molecular mechanisms in regulation of enzymes. Responsibilities include but not limit to: expression and purification of proteins/mutants, kinetics studies, and preparation of enzyme intermediates for spectroscopy studies. A strong background/experience in genetic code expansion, molecular biology and/or protein biochemistry is desirable. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated with demonstrated ability to carry out independent research.
The successful candidate will under general supervision, use fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures to perform advanced scientific methods and research tasks requiring development, application, and adaptation of established protocols, and both generate and follow standard operating procedures for reproducible results. He/She will work with our multi-disciplinary team to design, organize, and perform quality control for analyses related to achieving project goals and objectives. The individual will collect, analyze and interpret data, and prepare and present statistical and narrative reports. This individual will work in a multi-user laboratory with interdisciplinary academic programs. Therefore, exceptional cooperative teamwork skills are imperative.

The College of Pharmacy is small college in a large research university. As the only College of Pharmacy in the State of New Mexico, our Academic programs include the Doctorate of Pharmacy, and several Masters and PhD programs, supporting about 315 students annually. Our nationally recognized Research programs (15th out of 139 Pharmacy schools) offers unique learning opportunities for our students taught by nationally and internationally distinguished faculty. The College employs about 225 employees, including 56 faculty and about 100 staff, and varying numbers of part-time faculty, on-call staff, working retirees, graduate and undergraduate student employees.
Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
