The Department of Architecture at the University of New Mexico is currently accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track position to teach Sustainable Design at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position is a 9-month faculty appointment (mid-August to mid-May each academic year) beginning in August of 2024 located in Albuquerque, NM.

The Position:
The Department of Architecture welcomes candidates with expertise in sustainable design and new perspectives and lenses that bring social and environmental issues in sustainability to the forefront. The successful candidate will have the experience and knowledge to promote and expand the discourse on sustainability and design in architecture and the built environment. They will teach a required sustainability lecture course and related design studios and seminars to pre-professional undergraduate and professional and post-professional graduate architecture students. The candidate will also serve on department and school committees and participate in other activities, such as curriculum development. The successful candidate will demonstrate a track record of excellence in architectural research or a research-based architectural practice. Areas of expertise within sustainability may include knowledge of sustainable materials and methods of construction, resilience against impacts of climate change, indigenous knowledge systems, innovative methods of energy use, historic preservation, and other methodologies considering the sustained use, existence, and inhabitation of the built environment. The Department of Architecture offers a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, a NAAB-accredited Master of Architecture, and non-professional Master of Science in Architecture degrees.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1) A terminal degree in architecture, engineering, or related field.
2) Demonstrated teaching experience as instructor of record in the area of sustainability for a minimum of (2) semesters.
3) Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and/or graduate design studios.
4) A demonstrated track record of scholarly work or peer-reviewed activity.

Preferred Qualifications:

1) Exemplary teaching experience in the field of sustainability.
2) Innovative research and/or design as demonstrated through projects, workshops, conference participation, and other design and/or research outcomes.
3) A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
