The Accessibility Resource Center seeks a motivated, organized and team oriented Administrative Assistant, to join our Deaf and Hard of Hearing team to support faculty, staff and students. A successful candidate is excellent at communication, with good computer, writing and interpersonal skills.

  • Performs a wide variety of assignments which may be confidential in nature and require research to complete; operates personal computer to compose, edit, revise, tabulate, and print letters, tables, reports, and other materials pertaining to the scheduling of accommodations for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, staff, faculty, and campus visitors.
  • Greets and directs visitors, resolves routine administrative problems and answers inquiries concerning activities and operations of department/division; accepts, screens, and routes emails and telephone calls; maintains log of inquiries as required.
  • Performs a range of staff and/or operational support activities; may serve as a liaison with other departments on basic administrative and/or operational matters.
  • Sorts, screens, and distributes incoming and outgoing mail, drafts or prepares responses to routine inquiries, communicating with our vendor for captioning requests and operates a variety of office equipment.
  • Establishes, maintains, processes, and updates files, records, certificates, and/or other documents, relating to students as well as full time, part time, and on-call staff interpreters.
  • Facilitating communication with UNM departments on accommodation requests and for prep materials for interpreters/captionists; performs other duties related to maintaining one or more individual schedules; contacting on-call interpreters for work at UNM.
  • Orders, stocks, and distributes assistive listening equipment.
  • Performs basic, routine bookkeeping functions, which may involve simple billing and cash receipt activities related to interpreting services provided to staff, faculty and campus visitors.
  • May instruct and oversee the activities of student employees performing the same type of work.
  • May serve as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • If located at the UNM Children's Campus, successful candidate must pass a comprehensive post-offer, pre-employment criminal and New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) fingerprint background check, and a continued successful status will be verified by periodic future background checks.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

* Fluency or basic communication skills in American Sign Language

* Knowledge of Deaf Culture and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Communities
