Job Description:
Summary:
Barr is looking to hire a full-time environmental scientist to support our growing presence in the Southwest region of the United States. The person in this position will undertake challenging and fast-paced work on projects involving environmental impact assessment, permitting, and compliance. Work may include:
Writing environmental impact assessment documents
Developing and reviewing environmental, site, route, and conditional use permit applications
Completing environmental resources reviews
Reviewing field reports to verify environmental compliance
Preparation of presentation materials to communicate project issues to a variety of stakeholder types
Communicating with regulatory agencies and clients
The person chosen for this position will collaborate with other Barr staff, regulatory agencies, clients, and subcontractors. Work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments in the field or at another Barr office.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, studies, or policy; ecology; natural resources management; or a related field
Effective oral and written communication skills
Exceptional technical writing and task management skills, including scheduling, prioritizing, and following up
High attention to detail
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Ability to work independently and collaborate with teams of specialists and regulators at all levels
Flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule to meet deadlines and/or client needs
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years of relevant post-undergraduate experience
Advanced degree in related area or specialized experience in the fields of environmental science, studies, or policy; ecology; or natural resources
Familiarity with NEPA regulations
Environmental consulting or regulatory agency work experience
Experience with state and/or federal environmental review, regulatory interpretation, and permitting processes (including environmental assessment worksheets, environmental assessments, and environmental impact statements) in the Southwestern U.S.
Familiarity with socioeconomic screening tools
Applied knowledge of state and federal protected species programs
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Albuquerque, New Mexico; Farmington, New Mexico; or Durango, Colorado offices.

Compensation:
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $63,000-$85,000/year. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus. Our compensation comes in more ways than traditional base salary, and we believe that when all those elements are combined, our compensation is a competitive part of the total value proposition of working at Barr.
