The University of New Mexico is located in the high desert of Albuquerque, New Mexico and is a Division I FBS institution competing in the Mountain West conference. Campus is just minutes away with easy access to the local International Sunport Airport. Area attractions consist of national and state parks; tent rocks, white sands, and Carlsbad Caverns to name a few. Santa Fe engulfed with history and culture is a short train ride or drive away.

This is a semi-entry level position. The assistant athletic trainer intern will provide athletic training services under the direction of a team physician and reports to the director of sports medicine.

Possible position assignments could include but are subject to change:

  • Swimming
  • Soccer
  • Track
  • Golf

Competitive salary for an entry level position with full benefits. Reimbursement/full payment for NATA dues, BOC fees, and state licensure fees.

The assistant athletic trainer intern will assist the sports medicine staff in day-to-day operations. Work schedule will be non-standard, which will include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight team travel.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

* Coordination of injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic related injury and illness

* Maintain timely and accurate medical records

* Coordinate referrals to team physician and medical specialist when appropriate

* Serve as a liaison between coaches, student-athletes, physicians, and parents

* Preceptor duties within UNM's athletic training education program

* Daily operation and maintenance of sports medicine facilities

* Daily practice, home game coverage, and travel with assigned team

* Administrative duties as assigned by director of sports medicine

* Maintain continuing education according to the requirements of the Board of Certification and the New Mexico Board of Athletic Trainers

* Abide by the rules as set forth by the National Collegiate Athletic Association and Mountain West Conference

* Develop and distribute visiting team information

* Perform miscellaneous related duties

Conditions of Employment
  • Must present transcripts prior to a formal offer being extended.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • This is a fixed-term position, typically up to 24 months.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree obtained no earlier than 24 months prior to the date of hire; no previous work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors and/or master's degree in athletic training
  • Current BOC certification
  • Possession of CPR/AED Certification
  • Possession of or eligibility for New Mexico state licensure
