Position Title: Defense Area Planning Manager

Location of Position: United States -- Wisconsin -- Sturgeon Bay

Business Group: Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding

Department: FBS Defense

Position Type: Full-Time; Permanent; Exempt

Reports To: Area Manager

Position Summary: This position is responsible for supporting the management and planning of the DOD contracts constructed onsite, which may include LCS, MMSC and FFG(x). Significant heavy manufacturing may take place both in several fab shops, as well as on the waterfront. The successful candidate will support the 100+ working men and women in the skilled trades by generating and maintaining primary construction schedule; assisting in the coordination of in-house and outsource activities; acting as a liaison between FMM Engineering, Program Finance, Finance, Production Control and QA; maintaining reports performance to budget; acting as a liaison with the US Navy's representative; directly supervising any workforce that works on the project; assuring all people involved have the required training; and coordinating efforts with the trade managers.

Detailed Description:

  • Manage the schedule file system, post, report and update schedules and resource plans as required.
  • Participate in the configuration, data collection, analyzing, and reporting of performance metric related data.
  • Develop and maintain medium and long-range production resource plans.
  • Implement scheduling and resource planning standards.
  • Develop and maintain schedule-related performance data and documents.
  • Review progress of Fabrication and establish short range goals to meet schedules.
  • Review progress of all trades and functions and establish goals to meet schedules.
  • Investigate problems as they are identified and provide timely resolution.
  • Continually check with production and purchasing for items of concerns.
  • Timely decision making and problem solving.
  • Determine critical events.
  • Identify problem areas and critical path.
  • Work with planning to establish various detailed schedules.
  • Discuss and determine any material or information holdups and assign action.
  • Maintain progress photos, problem/concern areas and final photos.
  • Monitor actual performance to material and labor budgets.
  • As required, generate estimate at completion for in process job performance.
  • Scope and estimate NC work.
  • Identify problems with spec requirements which require changes.
  • Ensure drawings are updated.
  • Inform Management of customer's comments and concerns.
  • Provide leadership to team members.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and select those which provide most benefit/impact on company objectives.
  • Ability and willingness to engage in highly energetic pursuits on the waterfront.
  • Maintain a commitment to and promote the Quality and Environmental, Health & Safety Policies.
  • Abide by all organizational policies and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 1+ employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding's policies, and procedures. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Willingness to be a mentor, and demonstrate leadership skills that align with the mission, vision, and values of Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field, or willingness to achieve
  • Five years of shipyard experience in progressively large roles
  • Experience in administration, management control and/or accounting of technical/professional services
  • Minimum of 1 years' experience in scheduling, planning or a supervisory role
  • Understand basic Ev principle (ETC, Progress, EAC), able to work with FTP files
